YOGA FOR PREGNANCY & CHILDBIRTH I & II, POSTPARTUM / MOMMY & BABY YOGA,
AND YOGA FOR LABOR & DELIVERY
(Training for teachers in NYC with pre-natal and postpartum yoga specialist Mary Barnes)
This training workshop is specifically designed for: Yoga Teachers, Teachers of Children's Yoga or Family Yoga, Fitness Professionals and Childbirth Doulas <Click here for testimonials> who want a greater working knowledge of pre-natal and postpartum yoga*. You will learn how to accommodate pregnant women and new mothers who attend your group yoga classes and private sessions. And you will learn how to sequence and teach Pre-natal Yoga, Yoga or Childbirth and Postpartum/Mommy & Baby Yoga.

*You must already be a practicing yoga teacher.  Acceptance into the training is at the discretion of YOGA FOR TWO.

The next Barnes Method YOGA FOR TWO: Pre-natal and Postpartum/Mommy & Baby Teacher Trainings will be held:

30-hour Prenatal and Postpartum/Mom & Baby Yoga Training* in New York City: Friday - Tues., Oct. 23-27, 2009, hosted by Pure Yoga (203 E. 86th St. @ 3rd Ave.).
20-hour The Barnes Method Prenatal Training: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23, 24 & 25 10:00-6:00. The training will cover the curriculum of Yoga for Pregnancy (I), Yoga for Pregnancy & Childbirth (II) (See curriculum details below). The Training will include Anusara Principles of Alignment; hands-on work with pregnant women; observing/assisting a Prenatal YOGA FOR TWO class; and sequencing a prenatal class. Payment is due with registration.
10-hour The Barnes Method Postpartum/Mommy & Baby Training,  Monday, Oct.26, 12:00-5:00 and Tuesday, Oct. 27, 10:00-2:00. (See curriculum details below). Includes Anusara Principles of Alignment; and observing/assisting a Mommy & Baby Yoga class. Registration: Contact Yoga For Two for a registration form; full payment is due with registration. *This is part of a 60-hour Prenatal and Postpartum/Mom & Baby Yoga Training , broken into four10-hour segments; the first segment, Yoga for Pregnancy(I) is a pre-requisite for all other segments. This September training doesn’t include the Yoga for Labor & Delivery Training segment; contact Yoga for Two if you are interested in a future training. There are a limited number of 20-hour Internships available. For training participants.

CURRICULUM
Yoga for Pregnancy I

What will be covered

  • the physiology of pregnancy and how it relates to yoga
  • why some asanas (postures) are contra-indicated during pregnancy
  • principles of alignment
  • asana modifications for pregnancy
  • the greatest myths about pregnancy and yoga teacher’s greatest fears about working with pregnant women
  • the hows and whys of strengthening the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles during pregnancy, and an introduction to “exhale pushing”
  • common discomforts of pregnancy and how to work with them using asana and yoga therapeutics

Yoga for Pregnancy II
What will be covered

  • how to sequence a pre-natal yoga class
  • why certain asanas are especially good for pregnant women
  • review and teach abdominal and pelvic floor exercises, including how to check and recognize a separation of the abdominal wall (diastasis recti)
  • learn to teach the method of exhale pushing, a technique to empower women during delivery by using abdominal muscles to help push
  • how to recognize common maladies of pregnancy
  • yoga therapeutics for the pregnant woman
  • participation in this weekend training includes the opportunity to observe a Yoga for Pregnancy Workshop.

Postpartum/Mommy & Baby Yoga
What will be covered

  • the physiology of a post-partum woman and how it relates to yoga
  • contra-indicated asanas (postures) for post-partum women
  • universal principles of alignment
  • asanas for reawakening the post-partum body
  • how to recognize a separation of the abdominal wall (diastasis recti), and techniques to help it heal
  • effective abdominal and pelvic floor exercises
  • common post-partum maladies and how to help them using principles of alignment and yoga therapeutics
  • how to teach new mothers to interact with their babies while they practice yoga
  • how to help women regain physical, mental and emotional strength during the early months of motherhood
  • participants will have the opportunity to team teach a Mommy & Baby Yoga Class.

Yoga for Childbirth
What will be covered

  • how to teach women to use yoga during labor and delivery
  • how to teach women and their birth partners to use asana and breathing techniques to encourage the release of the apana vayu, the downward flowing, or birth energy
  • teach how the use of sound and movement can help during labor and birth
  • specific yoga postures for labor and pushing
  • learn how to teach the birth partners to support “exhale pushing”
  • participants will have the opportunity to observe a Yoga for Labor & Delivery Workshop.
